What to know before a stamped pour
About 79% of Gholson's occupied homes, 352 of 444, are lived in by their owners, in the Census Bureau's 2020–2024 survey estimates. The City's permit application also has the owner of record or agent agree to abide by any covenants and association restrictions that apply, so read those for your lot before the job is booked.
Release agents act as bond breakers so the mats don't stick, and they leave subtle color behind: after the concrete hardens, roughly 70% to 80% of the release is rinsed off, and the rest, pressed into the surface paste, becomes the accent. Stamping contractors have traditionally used powder because it comes in more colors; a liquid release evaporates quickly, so there is little cleanup.
Color hardener is broadcast by hand onto the fresh surface. Brickform's sheet sets the rate at 60 pounds per 120 square feet for most jobs, going heavier for lighter colors, up to 60 pounds per 90 square feet. After stamping, hand tools often have to clear away displaced cement paste: a chisel, a roller or a texture skin.
For the slab out back, see Gholson patios. To pattern concrete that's already down, overlays and resurfacing covers stamped overlays, and the Gholson services page lists everything else.

Pick pattern and colors
A base color, an accent release and a pattern are chosen, and any covenants on the lot are checked.
Pour, color and press
The slab is placed, color hardener is worked in, the mats are pressed, and the edges are detailed by hand.
Wash off, then seal
Leftover release comes off before sealing, since too much left on is one of the biggest reported sealer problems.

(254) 309-9254What stamped work costs by tier
National 2025 averages put stamped concrete at $8 to $13 a square foot for basic work, $13 to $19 mid-range and $19 to $26 or more high-end. A 20 by 20 foot stamped patio costs $3,200 to $7,600 and a two-car stamped driveway $6,900 to $10,400, while stamping existing concrete with an overlay averaged $7 to $15 a square foot. These are averages, not our prices.
Before you choose a stamped finish
How are the stamps pressed into the concrete?
By foot, at the right moment: when the concrete reaches the ideal stage, a person walking across the stamping tools can press them in, sometimes with a light tamp after. The first row has to sit on a straight line, since every row after it takes its line from that one.
Should calcium chloride go into stamped concrete?
Not under color hardener, by one maker's sheet. Brickform's technical information calls for at least 5½ sacks of cement per cubic yard and no more than a 4-inch slump, and it says to avoid admixtures containing calcium chloride.
How long does color hardener sit before it is floated in?
Five to 10 minutes after the first shake, one published guide says, long enough for it to absorb water from the concrete before it is floated into the surface.
