A new patio, or more room beside an old one
The Census Bureau's 2020–2024 survey estimates count 482 of Laguna Park's 614 occupied homes as lived in by their owners, about 79%, with wide margins. Whoever owns the house, a patio job is either a first slab or an addition beside an old one, and both start below ground.
One published guide, citing the American Concrete Institute's ACI 302, wants at least 4 inches of subbase and base combined under a slab, using compactable granular material in which fines make up 10 to 30% and clay, silt and organic matter are absent. On top, the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association lays out joint panels close to square, with no panel's length over one and a half times its width and no L-shapes.
For a patterned top, see Laguna Park stamped concrete; the rest of what we offer in town is on the Laguna Park page.

Peg out the size and the slope
The size, the shape and a fall away from the house are marked out with the owner.
Build the base, set the joints
A compacted granular base goes down, forms are set, and joint lines are planned for near-square panels.
Broom, then cure above 50°F
The slab gets its broom texture, then cures with its temperature kept above 50°F, as NRMCA advises.

(254) 309-9254Patio finish prices
National figures for 2026 price a patio slab of 4 to 6 inches at $6 to $9 per square foot. The finish moves that number: a broom or smooth trowel finish costs $1 to $3 a square foot or comes in the base price, while exposed aggregate runs $7 to $15, stained concrete $8 to $15 and stamped $10 to $18. They are averages, not a price from us.

Patio questions: old slabs, stain and cold
What joint goes between a new patio and an older slab?
An isolation joint. The American Concrete Pavement Association uses them between old and new pavements, ½ to 1 inch wide and filled with a pre-formed joint filler. Expect a seam in color as well, since matching new concrete to old can be a challenge.
Will a patched patio take stain evenly?
Not quite. Patched or repaired areas take stain to a different color, one published guide warns, and stain simply washes away unless the surface pores are opened first.
Can a fresh patio make it through a cold snap?
With protection, yes. Placed concrete should be held above 50°F while it cures, NRMCA says, and fresh concrete freezes once its temperature drops below about 25°F, which can cost it more than half its potential strength. So it is kept from freezing until it reaches 500 psi, about two days after the pour.
