From Walling Bend to the dam crest

The Texas State Historical Association places Laguna Park on State Highway 22, twenty-seven miles northwest of Waco, in southeastern Bosque County. The community dates from the completion of Whitney Dam about 1951, when the highway was moved from Walling Bend to a roadway on the dam crest near Laguna Park.

Behind that dam lies Lake Whitney, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Brazos River, run by its Fort Worth District, where Hill and Bosque counties meet, according to the Texas Water Development Board. Inside its Census boundary, Laguna Park has 2.995 square miles of land and 0.472 square miles of water. The Census Bureau counted 1,372 residents in 2020 and 1,276 in 2010; an unincorporated place gets no yearly estimate, so the 2020 figure is still the latest official one.

The Texas State Historical Association's Bosque County entry describes rolling hills of well-drained soil, shallow in places and deep in others, over limestone. How far down the rock sits under one particular lot is found on site.

Permits outside city limits

No city issues permits here, because Laguna Park is unincorporated. The rule Bosque County publishes is about floodplains. Out in the rural county, putting up a structure in the floodplain or reshaping land there takes a permit from its Floodplain Office, while floodplain permits inside the county's cities are left to those cities. The county's page doesn't address slabs or driveways elsewhere, so ask Bosque County before work is booked, and check any homeowners' association or Corps of Engineers shoreline rules too, since our research didn't cover them. The permit steps are set out on the slab page.

Two Bosque County neighbours

Mosheim, where Farm Roads 217 and 215 meet, is another unincorporated Bosque County place under the same county floodplain rule; see concrete work for Mosheim. Valley Mills, a city in southwestern Bosque County on State Highway 6, posts a building permit application of its own, with Valley Mills concrete services on their own page.
