A walk that stays flat and drains
The 2020 Census counted 99 housing units in Ross, 89 of them occupied. No City of Ross rules turned up for walks that reach the street, so ask the City before a new walk is tied into the right of way.
The USDA's soil ratings treat concrete driveways and sidewalks as poured slabs 3 to 6 inches thick and say high shrink-swell potential limits the performance and longevity of concrete structures. The soil under Ross wasn't found in our sources, so the base is planned once the ground has been looked at.
A walk that has dropped can sometimes be lifted instead of replaced; see sunken slab leveling in Ross. A path that ends at the back door can be poured with a new Ross patio, and all Ross concrete services are on one list.

Walk and path questions
How big should the landing be outside a front door?
The 2015 International Residential Code wants a landing or floor on each side of each exterior door, at least as wide as the door and at least 36 inches deep, sloped no more than 2 percent. At the required egress door, the outside landing may sit up to 7¾ inches below the threshold if the door doesn't swing over it.
Why can replacing a walk cost more than pouring a new one?
Because of what comes first. The old concrete has to be broken out with a sledgehammer or jackhammer and hauled away, and whatever damaged it, tree roots or plumbing for example, has to be fixed too, one published guide notes.
Does a raised walk or landing need a guard rail?
Under the 2015 International Residential Code, porches, stairs and landings standing more than 30 inches above the grade below need guards, and the guards must be at least 36 inches high. Ask the City which code edition it follows.
