Golinda: one city, two counties

The Texas State Historical Association puts Golinda on U.S. Highway 77 where Falls County meets McLennan County, and traces the name to Ignacio Galindo, a priest who received an eleven-league land grant in the area in 1833. In the Texas Municipal League's city directory, Golinda appears under General Law Type A, with 1973 as its year of incorporation.

Most of its people live on the Falls County side. The Census Bureau's estimate for July 1, 2025 is 704 residents (its April 2020 base was 615), and it splits them 548 in Falls County to 156 in McLennan.

Permits: ask the City

We found no working City of Golinda website in our research. Nor could we read any posted Golinda rule, fee or building code for drives, slabs and other flatwork; the municipal league's listing carries only an address on Golinda Drive and a phone line. Paperwork missing online is no proof that a job needs no permit, so put the question to the City before any forms are set.

Clay and loam on both sides

No soil map for Golinda itself is in the sources we hold. The association places Falls County in the Blackland Prairie, with upland clayey and loamy soil across over 70 percent of it, and describes eastern McLennan County as low rolling to flat country with, in its words, "black, waxy soils made up of clay and sand loams". The ground under each job gets its own look at the estimate.

Lorena, on Interstate 35 thirteen miles southwest of Waco, does publish a permit list, and it takes in all concrete work, drives and patios included; see concrete work in Lorena. Chilton, on State Highway 7 a mile east of U.S. Highway 77 in northwestern Falls County, has a page of its own.
