Where Highway 317 meets Farm Road 107

The Texas State Historical Association puts Moody ten miles from McGregor, where State Highway 317 crosses Farm Road 107 in McLennan County, and the City calls itself "The Central City of Central Texas". The town was established in 1881, when the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway built its track between Temple and Fort Worth, and it was named for William Lewis Moody, a director of the railroad; the post office opened that November.

Residents voted in 1901 to incorporate, choosing a mayor-council government. The Census Bureau estimates that 1,650 people lived in Moody on July 1, 2025, on 1.393 square miles of land.

By the association's account, the Balcones Fault bisects McLennan County on a southwest-to-northeast line; the county's western section has shallow, stony soils and its eastern section black, waxy clay and sand loams. It doesn't say which side Moody lies on, so the soil at each lot gets a look before a base or slab is planned.

The City of Moody asks residents to file a building permit application for remodeling, solar panels, electrical, plumbing or roofing work. Driveways, sidewalks and other concrete aren't mentioned on that page, which leaves the question open rather than answered, so ask the City before any concrete is formed.
